My Grandparents, Paul McGee Kennedy and Lola Elizabeth Herring-Kennedy, who fought for their country against Imperialism and Nazi Aggression. Paul and Lola spent two of the first five years of their marriage apart. While he served on the front lines in Europe, she worked in a munitions factory in Little Rock. They sacrificed to keep America not only safe, but free. Their world, like ours, was a dangerous place. Let us honor their courage by showing courage ourselves in defense of American freedom.
My Great-Grandfather, E.T. Herring. A Baptist minister and Arkansas native, E.T. Herring served in the Arkansas General Assembly and kept his family farm in Faulkner County going though the Great Depression. E.T. Herring was a strong believer in the power of education. Many of his 10 children became educators including my Grandmother, Lola Elizabeth Herring-Kennedy.
My Great-Grandmother,
Mary Langston-Herring, wife of Arkansas State Representative E.T. Herring. Mary raised 10 children in Arkansas during the Great Depression including my Grandmother, Lola Elizabeth Herring-Kennedy, to whom she taught by example the values of hard work and devotion to family and community.
Thanksgiving with my sisters at Grandma and Grandpa's farm in Faulkner County, Arkansas.
